Welcome to my portfolio! My name is Kyle Kivett, and I am a freelance writer, editor, and designer. You will find some of my favorite and most recent work on this homepage, but feel free to venture in further to find archives of all the articles and design projects I have published.
Originally from the Midwest, I have been living and traveling abroad since I graduated with a degree in Journalism in 2010. I write about a wide-range of topics from demographically-focused pieces about millennials and entrepreneurs to more socially-influenced articles like the threats posed on the nearly extinct Formosan Black Bear and climate change.
On a more creative side, I have also been lucky to extend my skills as a designer by creating a variety of artwork for book covers, infographics, article banners, and interactives. Recently, I even had the opportunity to try my hand at game design.
All of this can be found by exploring this site. Enjoy and feel free to send me a message if you have any comments or think that I might be of some help with one of your projects.
These feature articles best display my versatility as a journalist. On a personal level, I hope to bring important stories to life through my writing. This will be updated from time to time, so keep checking back.

To help take the guessing out of shopping for the entrepreneur on your list, here are some thoughtful and inspiring gifts that can help them usher in a year of success.
The struggles of being a freelance writer are real. Outside the confines of an office job, they are left to their own devices. While it is this very freedom and flexibly that lead many to take on the lifestyle of a freelance writer, the daily pressures of being your own boss c`an require a hefty amount of organization.
Luckily, thanks to the rise of technology and smart devices at our fingertips, there are a treasure trove of software and applications available to help freelancers with a number of job components: managing your time, organizing your workload, balancing your budget, and more.

The Formosan black bear – Taiwan’s largest predator and land animal – is endemic to Taiwan and cannot be found anywhere else in the world.
But in recent years, its reign has been usurped by the encroachment of modern man, who has continuously illegally poached the bears, severely exploited them, and driven them from their natural habitat. Hence, these bears have been pushed to near extinction.
A major problem companies face today is retaining the fast-growing millennial workforce. Currently, one in three workers are millennials and they have surpassedGeneration X as the largest labor force in the US.
Given that 60 percent of these millennials leave their company in less than three years and have a price tag between $15,000 and $25,000 to replace, it makes for a very expensive revolving door. Luckily, knowing the answer to one simple question before you hire millennials can help stop these issues before they start: What do millennials demand in a career?
We are in a thrilling time when companies are beginning to see the limitless value of thoughtful design. Designers today are pushing the boundaries and new trends are igniting all the time. This has inspired me to push my own limits and continue to develop my skill. Here you can see my most recent design projects.
Another designer and I were interviewed about our design process after creating a two-pronged interactive guide and low-poly game using Ceros, a software that gives designers the ability to animate their work without using a developer. In the interview, we describe the entire creative process from brainstorming to implementing. | Software: Ceros, Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop, GIF creator |
Designed covers to help share top-ranking pages on specially for our Pinterest, but the graphic could ultimately be used in many different ways. | Double-exposure effect: Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator |
Designed a book over for a series of e-books about various freelance writing and marketing topics. The inspiration for this design came from photographs of Mar's Monument Valley with a SpaceX launch in the background. | Double-exposure effect: Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator |
